This week the Toronto Star announced it will add up to 60 new employees in advance of the planned fall launch of a new tablet product. On the journalism industry site J-Source.ca, Toronto Star editor, Michael Cooke said that 2015 would be “the year of the tablet” for Canada’s largest daily newspaper. The Star plans to add new designers and journalists who will help bring freshness to the newsroom.

Digital & Retail:

Will taking photos of your food be the next big thing in grocery shopping? iphone-photo-600x339Toronto-based company, Slyce (seen as the Shazam of things) hopes it is. They build software that uses image recognition to pair photos with products. Slyce is partnered with Purchase Decision Network’s Shopper, an app that allows consumers to create grocery lists. The “Snap2Add” feature will give consumers the opportunity to take a photo of the grocery item they need and it will automatically add to their list. What’s the benefit to marketers? The “Snap2Add” feature will provide a real-time look at which brands people have purchased.

CES: Consumer Electronic Show

At this week’s annual International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), this year’s latest and greatest tech gadgets were on display.

These gadgets take fad dieting to a new high-tech level and turn the most mundane household appliances into flashy super machines. Even if you wouldn’t invest your money in these inventions, it is still interesting to see just how pervasive tech has become.
