What stories and tips caught our attention this week? You can find out in our top three PR and communications stories of this past week.

PR:

Whether you’ve been in PR for 20 years or a PR newbie, there are times when the industry has a way of swallowing you up. The long hours, the 24/7 availability requirement, the crisis management and shifting deadlines, are just a few of the many examples of everyday pressures. What’s most important is to create balance and have some down time in between all these pressures. Five PR pros have provided some of their coping mechanisms that may be of help to you.

  • Exercise
  • No Saturdays
  • Unplug
  • Family time
  • Talk it out
  • Be passionate

How to Apologize:

It’s been two weeks since Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling was banned for life from the NBA and his recent interview with Anderson Cooper offers useful lessons for professional communicators; lessons on what not to do. For those that didn’t see it, Sterling apologized for what he said, but most people would agree that is not how an apology should go down. President of Affect and contributor to PR News’ Crisis Management Guidebook Vol. 7, Sandra Fathi, provides some useful tips for meaningful public apologies when an organization’s or individual’s reputation has been significantly damaged.

You can see what those tips are in the link below.

Digital News:

Who is king? In a report released by Sandvine Corp., Netflix Inc. was named ‘king’ of North American Internet traffic usage. Internet traffic rose to 34% this month and their users consumed an average of 212 gigabytes. Their users account for 29.7% of all information downloaded during peak usage hours by North American broadband-connected households in March. In seeing such momentum, Amazon and Google are working relentlessly to advance their online streaming services. The trend represents a growing change for Canadians – they are spending money upgrading bandwith demands and getting rid of cable TV.

Is this a sign of things to come worldwide? Please view article below to learn more.
