Interested in what are favourite communications stories are for this past week? Take a break and read our top three!

Media:

What is the most trusted media source? According to a recent study conducted by PR News and Cision, print media was cited as the second most trusted media source, right behind traditional media venues online. The study focused on which social channels hold the most appeal among brands and organizations, as well as how social platforms measure up against other media. Some of the results from the survey might surprise you, while others will not.

Cision put together an infographic highlighting the survey, which can be viewed in the link below:

Wikipedia:

Eleven top PR firms released a joint statement stating they will abide by Wikipedia’s editing policies. For years PR agencies edited Wikipedia pages for their clients, whether to remove errors, illustrate them in a positive light or delete unflattering information. The statement lays out five points that the agencies will follow. This will hopefully restore accuracy and credibility to the Wikipedia name.

Human Compassion:

A recent Ted Talks analyzed how technology is impacting human connections, with a surprising number of speakers deeming it a barrier rather than catalyst. Lori Cheek, founder of online dating app Cheek’d, said when she first moved to New York she used to meet new people by simply approaching them on the street. She brought the approach to the online dating world: customers hand a physical “business card” with a fun message to a stranger they’d like to meet, and the stranger then goes online to find out more about them andif they want, to connect with them.

TEDx has the same intention: to multiply physical information exchanges and boost face-to-face networking opportunities. The in person experience keeps people in the moment more effectively because they’re live rather than on a desktop or tablet. This doesn’t mean technology isn’t important, but it does suggest that technology isn’t where we should look for great ideas and disruptions.
