CASACOM’S WEEKLY WRAP-UP – OUR FAVOURITE COMMUNICATIONS STORIES

It’s that time of the week again; our three favourite communications stories are here. You can learn more about WestJet’s new marketing campaign, find out what some of 2015’s social media resolutions are and discover the best ways to maximize your PR opportunities during the holiday season.

Brands

As many of you recall, last year WestJet had a very memorable and successful marketing campaign, titled “Christmas Miracle” that has seen almost 37 million YouTube views. The brand decided to repeat what they did last year, but with a new angle and thought of the idea of giving with a purpose. WestJet decided to fly to Nuevo Renacer, Dominican Republic (one of its international destinations) to bring a Christmas experience to the locals. WestJet set up a sleigh in the town and asked locals to tell them their Christmas wishes, similar to what they did last year in Canadian airports. WestJet then delivered all the presents at a party held on the beach.

2015 Social Media Resolutions:

From trying new networks to balancing the amount of social media we use, Mashable has come up with seven resolutions we can all work on in 2015.

  • In 2014 Twitter provided us with the ability to mute users; this means you can do all the follow backs and follows you want and you won’t get stuck going through tweets you don’t want to read.
  • Keep up with LinkedIn connections.
  • Delete (or download) those mobile apps.
  • Clean out your Facebook friends list.
  • Keep it out of bed.
  • Try a new network.
  • Think before you snap.

To read each of these resolutions in more detail, please see the article link below.

Holiday PR:

The holiday season is now upon us, which means a lot of people will be focused on wrapping up work, shopping and looking forward to time spent with family and friends. Although, it may be a busy time of year there is still time to maximize PR opportunities. Here are some ways to take advantage of the last weeks of the year with some dos and don’ts:

  • Do play off holiday themes.
  • Do spend some of your remaining marketing dollars on PR.
  • Don’t make major announcements over the holidays.
  • If you must make announcements, time them wisely.
  • Do use the time to catch up on tasks left undone.
  • Don’t skip on planning for the new year.
