Québec celebrates Sainte-Justine’s 100th anniversary Launch of the CHU Sainte-Justine Centennial at Montréal City Hall

In a truly festive spirit and as part of the celebrations highlighting the CHU Sainte-Justine 100th anniversary, Sainte-Justine President of the Board Monic Houde, and President of the Centennial Committee Michel Pauzé, unveiled today the2007 program in the presence of mayor of Montréal Gérald Tremblay. On the occasion of this ceremony, numerous dignitaries gathered in the hall of honor at Montréal City Hall, notably partners, sponsors, and other supporters from the artistic, economic, and social communities.

The Sainte-Justine choir kicked off the event, which took place simultaneously at Sainte-Justine and City Hall. Mayor Tremblay, Ms. Houde, and Mr. Pauzé took turns speaking, followed by representatives from major sponsors Alcan, Bell, BMO Financial Group, Bombardier, and Hydro-Québec (presenter of the scientific program), who expressed their pride in supporting the cause of mother and child health. Personalities from the Québec artistic community also took part in the event, notably Pierre Bruneau (master of ceremonies), Jean-Marie Lapointe, Sylvie Bernier, Annie Brocoli, Philippe Fehmiu, Josée Lavigueur, and Louis-Georges Girard. They presented the Centennial program live from the CHU in the company of Sainte-Justine Chief Executive Officer Khiem Dao.

“We are honored to host the launch of the CHU Sainte-Justine Centennial. Today, thousands of children benefit from world-class care because our community chose to invest in its children” said mayor Gérald Tremblay.

President of the Centennial Committee Michel Pauzé said he was very touched and pleased to see gathered together so many of the people who had contributed their know-how and dedication to building this institution over the years. “I would also like to thank all the individuals and organizations that collaborated to produce this Centennial event, including the media, businesses, and other partners who gave their time, energy, and money to celebrate this major Québec success,” he added.

At the same time, patients, employees, and doctors gathered at the CHU Sainte-Justine to take part in the celebration. Chief Executive Officer Khiem Dao was delighted to celebrate this event in the company of his team, without whom the institution’s success would not be possible.

The CHU Sainte-Justine President of the Board Monic Houde stressed that everyone gathered today to celebrate the 100th anniversary of a great institution owed their thanks to the thousands of doctors, nurses, employees, and volunteers who had stayed the course year after year as they dedicated themselves, with passion and courage, to the cause of mothers and children.

Packed program

As part of the Centennial, the CHU will offer a diversified, packed program of activities on a variety of topics that will provide both the general public and healthcare professionals with insights into the realities, problems, and issues associated with mother and child health. Shows, exhibitions, telecasts, concerts, and information sessions on children’s health will take place throughout the year.

Over the past 100 years, the CHU Sainte-Justine has helped train the majority of Québec’s pediatricians. Its dual mission of delivering healthcare and providing education was established right from the start. This tradition has been maintained and enriched over the years thanks to the addition of specialized services for mothers, rehabilitation and research development services, and activities promoting health.
